Mornings with Rick Stephenson

  • Monday-Friday 6:00am-12:00pm

Originally from the San Francisco-Bay Area, Rick Stephenson has lived the life radio has to offer, working in many different cities like Minneapolis, Albuquerque, Shreveport, and Phoenix, Arizona. Rick now makes his home in Peoria, Illinois. Although his country radio career spanned over four decades, he’s a “60’s child” and grew up with Top 40 radio including the Beatles, Beach Boys, and the rock revolution. From the beach and boardwalk of Santa Cruz to Fremont Drag Strip and the Haight-Ashbury in the City, he was right in the middle of it.

Rick’s resume is impressive to say the least, having worked at KNEW in Oakland, where he performed every job from morning jock to production director. Ten years later, his company moved him to the Twin Cities where Rick became the morning air personality at WDGY, Minneapolis and later the program director. He was a top five finalist for Billboard Magazine’s “Radio Personality of the Year” in 1989, and in the same year, he and his partner were voted by StarTribune readers as one of the top three morning teams in the city. He was also a panelist for USA Today for 18 months, picking top albums along with four other program directors from across the country.

From there, Rick programmed in Albuquerque, New Mexico and Phoenix, Arizona, and enjoyed his most rewarding accomplishments in Shreveport, Louisiana where he programmed KRMD for nearly five years. He led his staff to three consecutive LAB Station of the Year awards, two CMA and NAB nominations. He also programmed at Clear Channel’s KITT and KWKH, Shreveport, the home of the legendary Louisiana Hayride.

In 2001, Rick became the morning air personality at WFYR. During his ten years at 97.3 River Country, Rick was awarded a Silver Dome Award for “Best Local Morning Show of the Year in a Medium Market” three times by the Illinois Broadcasters Association. Rick was also honored by the Country Radio Broadcasters in Nashville and received a Silver Dome Award for “Best Community Service Activity” for “Do Me A Favor Friday.” It’s no surprise that Rick was a Top 5 Finalist for the Country Music Association and Academy Of Country Music Personality of the Year.

Rick served in the California Army National Guard from 1971-1977. The love of his life is his family. His daughter, Meg, is married to Andy, an Air Force Captain and they have given him four beautiful grandchildren: Rylie, Colton, McKenzie and Harper. They are stationed at Vandenberg AFB in California.

Rick’s other passion is working with adults with disabilities at Community Workshop and Training Center, Inc., serving as their Communications/PR Coordinator.

There are so many things you look at when deciding on a new vehicle. Quality, price, reliability, style and customer service. The last two cars I’ve owned were Toyota Camrys…and after 13 years, I decided to drive…another Toyota Camry. And when it was time to buy, I went to the place that has always taken care of my Camry, Peoria Toyota. For over 35 years, Peoria Toyota has been providing us with quality new and pre-owned vehicles. Peoria Toyota is also a full-service dealership. which means they will not only help you find a vehicle you’ll love, they service them as well. And through it all, you’ll find what I’ve found…. outstanding customer service. In fact, Peoria Toyota has earned the prestigious President's Award six years in a row! Peoria Toyota is downstate Illinois' new Toyota leader and quickly becoming your dealer of choice. Visit them on Allen Road in Peoria and at peoriatoyota.com. Peoria Toyota. Tested. Trusted.
