As we head full-speed towards 2019, I hope you and your families had a wonderful Christmas and wish you nothing but the best in the new year.
I’m not sure what 2019 holds for me. I feel like this is going to be a year of change for me. I have no idea why…I feel like that every New Year. I may have started a little early this time with my Christmas gifts to my kids and grandkids.
I decided this year to give them the gifts of memories with a trip to Disneyland. They each received a Hallmark Disney ornament with 2018 on it and they opened those on Christmas Eve. (It’s a subtle reminder each year of that Christmas memory when they decorate the tree. They thought it was Grandpa’s silver he always gives).
After all the gifts were open, we sent them on a scavenger hunt for clues…six in all that led to the trip reveal. Since we’re not going until February, my daughter came up with a great idea for a “Disney Trip chain.” Each day, they remove one link from the chain until the day arrives to visit “The Happiest Place on Earth.”
I was a little worried about how much I was spending, but I thought, “What greater gift can you give than a memory?” They’ll remember a wonderful Christmas morning with yuletide wrapping littering the living room landscape over every square inch. But how many gifts will they remember a year from now? (I could only remember one from last year). But years from now, they’ll remember the scavenger hunt and the trip to Disneyland with Grandpa.
Time is promised to no one. Have a great 2019 and make it memorable! And of course, make those all-important resolutions. I still resolve not to eat Fig Newtons.
